ON THE WATER COURSES
Please note we will not be running any on the water courses at HCYC during the winter period 1 October 2023 to 30 April 2024
RYA Dinghy Courses
Dinghy Level 1 - Start Sailing: This is a 2 day course teaching all you need to know to launch, sail in all directions and recover your dinghy back on shore.
Dinghy Level 2 - Basic Skills: Following level 1, this is a 2 day course of further development, improving technique and skill.
Dinghy Level 3 - Better Sailing: This is a taster of the RYA Advanced Modules. We will cover Day Sailing, Spinnakers, Seamanship, Racing and Performance.
Dinghy Start Racing: Extend your sailing options and fun with this introduction to racing. Even if you never intend to race, this will help you to improve your sailing skils.
Dinghy Seamanship Skills: Here we help you to focus your attention on sailing with a partner as crew and helm in a crewed boat; learn to handle larger boats with main sail and jib, rigging, launching and recovery, as well as high level skills such as sailing tight circles and sailing rudderless.
Dinghy Sailing with Spinnakers: Step up a gear by learning how to safely get the most from these spectacular and large sails.
Youth Sailing Scheme - Start Sailing Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4: Courses that echo the aims of the Start Sailing courses but designed and run for younger sailors.
RYA Powerboat Courses
Level 1 Start Powerboating: This is a 1 day course learning about launching and driving a tiller steered power boat on our inland lake, being in control of the boat yourself.
Safety Boat: Courses are occasionally run subject to demand.

THEORY COURSES
Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course: Learn the essentials of navigation and charts, highly recommended for all coastal dinghy sailors.
First Aid Course: This covers the requirements for many of the RYA courses including yachting, safety boat and instructor courses.
Day Skipper Theory Course: For anyone planning to sail yachts and do the RYA practical yachting courses this is the pre-requisite, as well as being a useful for coastal dinghy sailing.
