Training

Training and Tuition covers everything from formal RYA courses to organised fun sessions for children, and includes:

Junior Training

The club has fleets of Topper and Oppie dinghies for junior members to use.  Tuition for juniors covers all 4 stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme and is mixed in with fun activities to match their age and abilities. Parents involved will receive tuition where necessary.

RYA Start Sailing

This is the equivalent of the old RYA Adult Level 1 course. It is a 2-day course for beginners who want to learn the basics of dinghy sailing so that they can carry on sailing unsupervised.

RYA Basic Skills

This course is the equivalent of the old RYA Adult Level 2 course. It is a comprehensive 4 or 5 day course for members who want a thorough training in all the basics of dinghy sailing. Priority on the first course of the year will be given to members who joined last year and who want to consolidate and improve on their first season's sailing.

RYA Better Sailing (Level 3) - NEW

This course seeks to bridge the gap between Basic Skills (L2) and the five advanced modules.  It will focus on improving your boat handling skills as both helm and crew.  It will give you the opportunity to practice and consolidate your techniques and have a taster of what some of the advanced modules have to offer. Please note that this is not the same as the old level 3 course.

Patrol Boat Training

This is a half-day familiarisation session and is free to members.

Race Training

There is Topper race training for juniors, and there are introductory sessions for adults who want to dip their toes into the racing water. Some fun race sessions will be held on some Sunday afternoons. Dates will be published in February 2010.

RYA dinghy "Seamanship Skills" - one day assessment.
